The Agriculture Ministry in India has permitted the trading of 10 additional commodities on the electronic National Agriculture Market (e-NAM), increasing the total tradable items on the platform to 231. The new commodities include dried Tulsi leaves, Besant, wheat flour, chana sattu, water chestnut flour, asafoetida, dried fenugreek leaves, baby corn, dragon fruit, and water chestnut.
The decision was made following consultations with stakeholders, including state agencies, traders, subject matter specialists, and the Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC). The additional commodities fall under the secondary trade category, which can help Farmer Producer Organizations market value-added products and formalize trade in the sector.
The Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI) has formulated tradable parameters for these additional commodities to help farmers secure better prices and ensure quality standards. The expansion aims to increase agricultural commodity coverage, provide more opportunities for farmers and traders, and enhance transparency and fair trading practices.
