The central government has provided Rs.15,948 crore to sugar mills in the last 5 years

Parliament was informed on Friday that the Central Government has disbursed Rs 15,948 crore under various schemes to various sugar mills in the last 5 years till January 31 to clear the sugarcane price arrears of the farmers.

According to the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, the Central Government has introduced these schemes in the last five years to increase the cash flow of sugar mills and to pay the arrears of sugarcane to farmers.

The projects include setting up and maintaining a 30-lakh tonne sugar buffer stock, which will be operational from July 2018 to June 30, 2019, for the 2018-19 season, and for the 2019-20 season to help support sugar exports to sugar mills.

Under these schemes, about Rs 15,948 crore has been released to various sugar mills in the country in the last five financial years till the current financial year January 31, 2024.
