Tata Motors and MG Motor were the first to sell more than 7,000 electric vehicles in March, a 100% increase over the same month last year. TVS Motor Company is second in the market for electric two-wheelers, after Ola Electric.
Data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) shows that Tata Motors sold 7,137 electric vehicles during the month, up 107% year over year (y-o-y) from the 3,444 units sold in March 2022. Looking ahead, we anticipate that demand for personal vehicles will remain strong, with the trend towards electrification strengthening as more options are made available to customers and supported by a rapidly expanding and improving ecosystem, according to a recent statement made by Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.
Ola Electric sold 21,274 units of its eScooters in the two-wheeler market, an increase of more than 132 percent year over year as compared to 9,145 units in March 2022. With its iQube electric scooter, TVS Motor Corporation saw a retail sales increase of 16,768 units in March, up seven times from 2,392 units in March 2022.
Retail sales of electric PVs totaled 8,566 units in March, up more than 13% year over year from the 3,718 units sold in the same month previous year. According to the FADA data, the total number of electric two-wheelers sold increased by 58% year over year to 85,793 units from 54,400 units in the same month last year.
