Net sugar output for the 2023–24 marketing year has decreased somewhat, to 280.79 lakh tonnes thus far

According to trade data issued on Monday, India’s net sugar production decreased slightly to 280.79 lakh tons as of March 15 of the current marketing year, which began in October 2023.

The Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) released a statement saying, “Sugar production till 15th March 2024 in the current 2023-24 season reached 280.79 lakh tonnes, against 282.60 lakh tonnes produced last year on the corresponding date.”.

The sweetener’s gross production forecasts for the marketing year ending in September were updated by 9.5 lakh tonnes to 340 lakh tonnes by ISMA last week. The previous year’s gross sugar output was 366.2 lakh tonnes. The association had predicted in January that the gross sugar production for the 2023–24 marketing year would be 330.5 lakh tonnes, assuming no ethanol diversion.
