Jeera futures fell 0.36% to ₹24,700 on profit booking after recent gains driven by strong domestic and export demand. Supply remains tight due to delayed crop arrivals from Gujarat and Rajasthan, but the upside is limited by weak overall demand and ample old stocks.
Farmers hold around 20 lakh bags of jeera, but only 3–4 lakh may be traded this season. 2023–24 production is estimated at 8.6 lakh tonnes, up from 5.77 lakh tonnes last year due to better sowing and crop conditions.
India remains globally competitive, offering cumin at $3,050/tonne—$200–250 cheaper than China, driving a 70.72% export surge to 165,084 tonnes during April–December 2024.
