Jeera Benefits from a Month-Long Sowing Delay for Gujarat’s New Cumin Crop

Jeera prices increased by 0.24% to settle at 20,830, driven by a delayed start to the new crop in Gujarat due to unfavorable weather. Sowing in major producing regions like Gujarat and Rajasthan began a month late, tightening early supplies.

However, upside momentum was limited by subdued demand and sufficient carry-forward stocks. Farmers hold around 20 lakh bags of cumin, with 3-4 lakh bags expected to trade before the season ends.

Production for the current season is projected to remain on par with last year, with India’s cumin output increasing to 8.6 lakh tonnes across 11.87 lakh hectares in 2023-24.
