India’s coffee exports have grown by 125% in the last 11 years, from $800 million in 2014–15 to $1.8 billion in 2023–24. In 2022–23 alone, exports were $1.14 billion. This growth has been mainly due to the efforts of the Coffee Board of India.

Europe is the largest buyer of Indian coffee, with countries like Italy, Germany and Belgium leading the way. Korea, Japan and the Middle East are other major markets. The US and the UK are particularly interested in specialty coffee.

To help exporters, the Coffee Board provides online permits and certificates, shares market information. India, the world’s 5th largest coffee exporter, is the 7th largest producer.

To improve quality, the Coffee Board is providing a 40% subsidy (up to ₹15 lakh) for setting up machinery for roasting, grinding and packaging. Entrepreneurs like the South Indian Coffee Company are working to take Indian specialty coffee to global markets.
