Keeping in mind farmers’ use of pesticides, a leading company is gearing up to export its First brown Sona Masoori rice from India to Europe.
First brown Sona Masoori rice and MRL compliant Ponni are produced in Tamil Nadu under an AI-powered quality control system. In the next five years, the fresh rice export market is expected to cross 1.5 lakh tonnes.
Also the company is encouraging farmers to produce traditional varieties like Karupu Kauni, Poongar, Mappillai Samba. It wants to use drones to monitor crop health and ensure herbicides are sprayed with 100 percent accuracy.
In Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu, MRL has enrolled 1,500 farmers on 20,000 acres. A similar scheme is also being implemented in Karnataka.
