Turmeric prices fell 3.9% to ₹13,806 as reports of good yields showed a slight improvement despite some weather changes. Turmeric arrivals rose to 9,030 bags from 7,965 bags in the previous session. With Hingoli markets closed, key trading hubs like Erode were active.
The crop has expanded significantly, especially in Erode district, where it is said to have doubled compared to last year. Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra are believed to have seen 30-35% higher sowing rates. This year, 3.75-4 lakh hectares of turmeric have been sown across the country, compared to 3-3.25 lakh hectares in the previous year.
Turmeric exports increased by 0.96% to 92,911.46 tonnes between April and September 2024, indicating that export demand is still low. Nevertheless, imports increased by 184.73% to 15,742.12 tonnes,
