Tata Motors, India’s biggest commercial vehicle manufacturer, on Thursday launched a battery electric version of its popular mini truck Ace which it plan to launch commercially next quarter. The launch would mark Tata Motor’s charge into the electric cargo segment of commercial vehicles.
The company also signed an MoU with various e-commerce and logistics companies like Amezon, BigBasket, Flipkart, under which the electric Ace will be employed in their respective fleets. The price of the Electric Vehicle will be announced when the deliveries begin in the next quarter.
Developed on active vehicle architecture, the Ace EV claims to run for a maximum of 154 km on a full charge. The vehicle which can be fast and slow charged is powered by a 27 kW (36 hp) motor. Prices of the Ace EV will be shared at the time of its launch, the company said.
“Building on our experience and success with electric buses, we have designed use case specific Electric Vehicle solutions for intra-city distribution. We are much inspired with the support and response obtained from our e-commerce customers, with whom we start this journey of zero emission cargo mobility,” said, Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors.
Tata Motors states that the Ace EV delivers a safe, all climate operation with an advanced battery cooling system and regenerative braking system to improve the driving range. The vehicle allows regular and fast charging capabilities for high up time. It has the highest cargo volume of 208 cubic feet and grade ability of 22 per cent.
