To establish Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) and Floating Solar Projects (FSPs) in Maharashtra, SJVN Limited announced on Friday that it had inked two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Maharashtra government.
SJVN and the Maharashtra government’s Department of Water Resources signed the first Memorandum of Understanding to develop five pumped storage projects with a combined capacity of 8100 MW. To create a 505 MW floating solar project at Lower Wardha Dam in Maharashtra, SJVN and the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO) signed a second memorandum of understanding.
8400 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created by the projects, which are expected to require a total projected investment of Rs 48,000 crore.
There will be two stages to the development of the 505 MW floating solar installation. There will be two phases: one with 100 MW and the other with 405 MW. The company stated that the staged construction will guarantee the best possible use of the region’s current power evacuation infrastructure in addition to offering a dependable and sustainable energy source.
The business also stated that the 800 MW Kolmondapada, 1500 MW Sidgarh, 2000 MW Chornai, 1800 MW Baitarni, and 2000 MW Jalvara pumped storage projects are among the 8100 MW of projects.
This Memorandum of Understanding will enable SJVN to carry out Survey & Investigation, prepare a DPR, and further establish the aforementioned projects in Maharashtra in a timely way following the current laws, policies, and plans of the Central and State Governments. The PSPs will be essential for energy storage, grid stabilization, and peak electrical demand fulfillment, guaranteeing clean and dependable energy for the state of Maharashtra, according to SJVN.
