Jeera Rises on Short Covering After Demand Slump

Jeera futures closed 0.70% higher at 19,370, following weakness due to subdued domestic and export demand post the retail season. The downtrend was largely due to comfortable supply levels, limited foreign buying, and tepid trade activity.

Farmers hold around 20 lakh bags, but only 3-4 lakh bags are expected to be traded before the season ends, leaving a carryover stock of around 16 lakh bags.

Production is projected to remain at par with last year, but exports remain under pressure, with exports dropping 27.07% in April-May 2025. However, May 2025 exports rose 11.26% year-on-year and 17.68% month-on-month.
