India sets foodgrain record on wheat, rice, and maize surge

India’s agricultural sector experienced a 6.5% increase in food grain production during the year ending June 30, 2025. Rice production reached an all-time high, while wheat and maize production reached historic highs.

The growth is attributed to farmer diligence, advanced agricultural research, and effective government policies. However, the mustard crop faced setbacks, but increased soybean and groundnut output compensated for the decline.

Pulses and oilseed outputs still need improvement, while sugarcane and cotton production saw slight decreases. The government is focusing on expanding cultivation areas and improving yields to sustain agricultural growth.

However, mustard production declined to 12.61 million tonnes, while pulses production remained steady. The sector’s resilience and potential are reflected in the country’s agricultural growth.
