Dollar Weakens Amid US Political Changes

The US dollar weakened against major global currencies as investors reacted to the results of the US midterm elections on November 4, 2026. The possibility of Democrats gaining control of Congress created uncertainty over future government spending, economic policies and regulatory decisions. As a result, investors reduced their exposure to the US dollar.

The US Dollar Index, which measures the dollar’s strength against a basket of six major currencies, declined by around 0.6% to 101.27, reaching a one-month low. Meanwhile, the Euro and Japanese Yen gained strength against the dollar. Falling US Treasury bond yields also reduced the attractiveness of dollar-denominated investments.

The weaker dollar could provide some support to emerging-market currencies, including the Indian Rupee. On November 4, the Indian Rupee strengthened to nearly ₹94.51 against the US dollar, supported by dollar weakness and improved foreign investment flows. However, future movements will also depend on US economic data, Federal Reserve decisions and global geopolitical developments.
