For the first time, Brazil has surpassed the United States in cotton production and exports, setting a historic record. Thanks to favorable prices and low production costs, Brazil’s cotton acreage is expected to reach a record high of 1.97 million hectares in 2024-2025. With a decline in production in India and an increase in global demand, 12.6 million bales of cotton are expected to be exported. Despite the lower yield due to weather-related problems, production is expected to increase by 13% from the previous year to 16.9 million bales. China is the top importer of cotton, but exports are still growing as domestic consumption remains stable at 3.2 million bales. Brazil’s dominance in the global cotton market is increasing, further enhancing its economic benefits and employment opportunities.
