Turmeric Falls on Acreage Increase Expectations

Turmeric prices fell by 1.68% at 13,324, despite expectations of higher acreage due to favorable monsoon conditions. Daily arrivals increased to 13,660 quintals, suggesting higher market availability.

The area under turmeric has expanded to 3.30 lakh hectares for the 2024-25 season, but production gains may not match acreage growth due to untimely rains.

Despite these concerns, fresh arrivals at the Duggirala market continue to attract strong buying interest, with new stocks fetching higher prices than old inventory.

Export performance remains supportive, with April 2025 shipments rising 6% year-on-year to 14,956.80 tonnes. The Himachal Pradesh government has initiated procurement drives to boost natural farming.
