Till mid-December 2024, the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has procured over 31 lakh bales of cotton at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Telangana and Maharashtra are leading in the procurement of cotton. CCI has projected that the cotton procurement in 2024-25 will be higher than last year at 33 lakh bales with higher MSP. Further, the Cotton Association of India (CAI) has revealed that 2 lakh bales were delivered to the market per day and a total of 83.30 lakh bales were received.
The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has made great progress in the procurement activities for the 2024-25 cotton season. Due to which more bales were procured in December. However, due to sluggish mill demand and falling cotton seed prices, raw cotton prices are currently trading below the MSP. In the 2024-25 season, the Centre has increased the MSP by 7% over the previous year, from ₹7,121 per quintal for medium cotton.
Cotton production estimates for 2024-25 have been revised down by about 7% to 302.25 lakh bales, but unfavourable weather conditions and low area are still impacting production in some regions
