Turmeric Slips on Anticipated Acreage Rise

Turmeric prices have declined by 1.6% to 12,772, driven by increased acreage and favorable monsoon conditions. Daily turmeric arrivals have increased to 13,660 quintals, indicating increased availability in key markets.

However, quality concerns and lower productivity forecasts limit the downside in prices. Production is not expected to increase proportionately, as untimely rainfall may affect yields.

In the 2023-24 season, turmeric production reached 10.75 lakh tonnes; however, new crop yields are projected to decline by 10-15%, particularly in regions such as Nanded.

Market activity remains vibrant, with daily volumes ranging from 1,000 to 1,200 bags. Export shipments rose 8.37% YoY to 34,162.28 tonnes from Apr-May 2025.
