Turmeric prices rose by 0.18% to 13,142, despite short covering. Daily arrivals increased to 13,660 quintals, indicating a steady inflow of produce. Preliminary estimates project a 15-20% increase in turmeric acreage this season, as farmers shift from other less profitable crops.
However, production is unlikely to rise proportionally due to adverse weather effects, particularly in the Nanded region.
Turmeric acreage is pegged at 3.30 lakh hectares for the 2024-25 season, but output is expected to decline by 10-15% due to reduced productivity. Market activity remains firm, with daily volumes ranging from 1,000 to 1,200 bags.
