The BSE Large-cap, BSE Mid-cap, and BSE Small-cap indices had losses of 0.8 percent, 2 percent, and almost 4 percent throughout the week, respectively. The Nifty50 slid 155.3 points, or 0.68 percent, to conclude at 22,397.20 for the week, while the BSE Sensex index fell 503.67 points, or 0.67 percent, to close at 73,828.91.
The Nifty IT, Nifty Media, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Auto, and Realty sectoral indices all saw declines of 4.5 percent, 3.4 percent, 2.5 percent, and 2 percent, respectively, at the close of the day.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold stocks totaling Rs 21,231.25 crore in March and have now done so for the sixth consecutive month. Domestic Institutional Investors (DII) purchased stocks worth Rs 5,499.47 crore this week, while FIIs sold stocks worth Rs 5,729.68 crore.
Investors have been cautious due to the Nifty index’s continuous consolidation, but a clear breach from the 22,250–22,650 area is anticipated shortly. In the meantime, traders should continue to use a stock-specific strategy and exercise caution when it comes to position sizes. Given the possibility of ongoing underperformance, we still advise against adding to loss-making positions, especially in the midcap and smallcap sectors.
