Suzlon Group stated on Monday that it has secured the largest wind energy order in India, worth 1166 MW, from NTPC Green Energy Limited, the renewables division of NTPC Limited, following the publication of impressive Q1FY25 results. According to a regulatory filing, Suzlon plans to build 370 wind turbine generators (WTGs) of S144 type, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW and a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower, at two NTPC Renewable Energy projects and one Indian Oil NTPC Green Energy project. With this victory, Suzlon’s total order book will be around 5 GW as of September 3, 2024.
“We are delighted to partner with NTPC Green Energy Limited, the renewables arm of India’s largest utility, NTPC Limited,” stated Girish Tanti, vice chairman of Suzlon Group, “in our capacity as the nation’s premier Wind Energy OEM.” This historic partnership serves as a reminder of our dedication to hastening India’s switch to renewable energy. This represents Suzlon’s victorious comeback to the PSU customer market and our first direct wind energy order from NGEL.
He went on to say that the project will end up being the biggest wind energy project in Gujarat undertaken by a PSU. Once completed, this would establish a new standard for projects in the future that support India’s economic growth, energy independence, and NGEL’s ambitious goal of building 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, he stated.
“Participation from utilities of the scale and expertise of NGEL is critical to achieving India’s energy transition targets,” stated P Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group. This project is the first of many such groundbreaking initiatives that will revolutionize India and the United States in the future, even if it is the largest wind energy order in India. We are dedicated to completing this project on schedule and with outstanding quality.
According to the terms of the deal, Suzlon will provide the wind turbines (equipment supply), carry out the project in Gujarat, including its erection and commissioning, and handle operations and maintenance services afterward.
