State-owned SAIL manufactured a record 18.28 million tonnes (MT) of crude steel during the fiscal year 2022–23, representing a growth of 5.3% from the previous year. During the fiscal year that concluded on March 31, hot metal output increased by 3.6% to 19.40 MT.
The Steel Authority of India (SAIL) announced in a statement that FY23 saw its best-ever yearly production. The company produced 19.409 MT of hot metal and 18.289 MT of crude steel, up 3.6% and 5.3%, respectively, from the previous best in FY22, according to the statement.
The steel company noted that it has been gradually increasing production over the years with an emphasis on producing more value-added and unique steel. The Ministry of Steel’s SAIL, which has an installed capacity of about 20 MT per year, is the nation’s largest manufacturer of steel. It has three special steel mills and five integrated steel plants across the nation.
