Reliance Nu Solar Energy Corporation of India awarded a 930 MW solar energy contract for a battery energy storage system project to Suntech, a Reliance Power subsidiary, in an e-reverse auction on December 9.
Following the tender conditions, Reliance NU Suntech will also need to install a minimum of 465 MW/1,860 MWh of solar-powered storage capacity. The business stated that it had yet to receive a letter of award from SECI.
According to Reliance Power, for a total estimated capacity of 2,000 MW of solar power projects connected to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) with 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh energy storage systems, the company has obtained the greatest individual allocation among the five competing companies.
At a rate of Rs 3.53 ($0.0416)/kWh, Reliance NU Suntech’s bid at SECI’s Tranche XVII auction was successful.
The project guarantees a four-hour daily peak power supply (or a four-hour discharge duration). Reliance NU Suntech and SECI will sign a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA), and the solar energy acquired will be distributed to several Indian distribution companies (discoms).
Dependency NU According to the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission’s rules, Suntech must link to the interstate transmission system to connect to the ISTS or InSTS. Suntech will develop the project on a build-own-operate basis.
