Uttar Pradesh is experiencing a significant increase in the cultivation of oilseeds and pulses during the Kharif season. The Agriculture Department reported a 547.14 thousand hectare increase in the total area under oilseed crops in 2025, with the most significant increase in sesame cultivation.
Groundnut and soybean cultivation also expanded, with pigeon pea (arhar) being the primary Kharif pulse. Major Kharif crops like paddy and maize also saw growth, while cotton cultivation also saw an increase.
The total area under Kharif crops in Uttar Pradesh has risen from 6,574 thousand hectares to 8,262 thousand hectares.
