Oilseeds and Pulses Fall, Wheat Acreage Hits an All-Time High

The 2024-25 rabi season has seen significant developments, with wheat acreage reaching an all-time high of 320 lakh hectares, surpassing last year’s total of 318.33 hectares. This expansion in wheat coverage reflects favorable crop conditions, with no reported pest issues and cool weather benefiting the crop.

The government has set a target of 115 million tonnes for wheat production this year, slightly higher than the 113.29 mt harvested in 2023-24. Pulses acreage remains almost unchanged at 139.81 hectares, with slight reductions in Masur sowing.

Oilseed acreage, particularly mustard, has decreased by 4.9% due to concerns over weather conditions during mid-November. Other crops like maize and winter paddy have shown positive trends, with maize acreage increasing by nearly 10%.

The total area under all rabi crops has reached 632.27 hectares, marginally higher than the previous season’s 631.44 hectares. Winter paddy acreage also shows positive growth.
