Jeera prices rise after recent decline due to low demand!!!

Jeera prices rose by 0.75% to ₹18,810 after a recent decline. The previous decline was due to low demand from both the domestic and export markets after the end of the retail season. Traders say there is adequate supply and inventory, which has also brought down prices. Only 3–4 lakh bags of jeera are expected to be sold by the end of the season, and about 16 lakh bags will be carried forward for the next season. Farmers currently have about 20 lakh bags.

Although crop conditions are good and production is similar to last year (90–92 lakh bags vs. 1.10 crore bags), export demand is still low. Gujarat is expected to produce 42–45 lakh bags and Rajasthan 48–50 lakh bags. Bad weather in competing countries like China, Syria, Turkey and Afghanistan has affected their jeera production. China’s production could fall to 70,000–80,000 tonnes.

From April to May 2025, cumin exports fell by 27.07% compared to the same period last year. However, exports in May increased by 17.68% compared to April, and by 11.26% compared to May last year, reflecting a slight increase in foreign demand.
