Jeera prices fall as stockist demand eases at high price levels

Jeera prices have slightly decreased by 0.15% to ₹24,030 due to weak demand from stockists and farmers selling at high prices. Despite limited Rajasthan arrivals, subdued buying interest has slowed the market’s bullish momentum.

However, crop conditions are improving this season, and production is expected to match last year’s levels. India’s cumin production for 2023-24 increased to 8.6 lakh tonnes from an expanded sowing area of 11.87 lakh hectares.

Farmers hold approximately 20 lakh bags of cumin, with only 3-4 lakh bags expected to be traded before the season ends. India’s price competitiveness is advantageous, as Indian cumin remains significantly cheaper than Chinese cumin, which is priced $200-$250 higher.

Jeera exports surged 66.98% year-on-year during April-January 2025, with January exports alone rising 37.82% year-on-year.
