Turmeric prices rise on strong buying

Turmeric prices rose 0.03% to ₹13,992, but this was despite rumours of tight supplies till the next harvest season due to significant buying. Despite the Hingoli markets being closed, supplies rose sharply to 9,030 bundles from 7,965 bundles the day before. Also, turmeric production in key growing regions like Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh increased, with turmeric sown in 3–3.25 lakh hectares this year increasing to 3.75–4 lakh hectares.

India’s turmeric exports rose 6.57% to 108,879.96 tonnes between April and October 2024, with exports in October registering a significant year-on-year growth of 57.22%. However, imports increased by 118.99% to 17,692.28 tonnes during the same period. Imports in October showed contrasting market trends, rising by 16.90% month-on-month and falling by 23.53% year-on-year.
