December IIP rises to 7.8% on robust manufacturing output, reaching two-year highs.

December 2025 saw a 7.8% increase in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), the fastest rate in more than two years. According to the Quick Estimate, the IIP growth rate for November 2025 was 6.7%.

“After registering a high growth of 7.2%(RE) in November 2025, industry momentum further strengthened in December 2025 as the Index of Industrial Production rose by 7.8%, reaching its highest level in over two years,” according to government data.

IIP’s Quick Estimates are currently 170.3, compared to 158.0 in December 2024. A large portion of the growth was driven by the manufacturing sector, which grew 8.1% in December. Mining and energy came next.

Important categories include computer, electrical, and optical items, which increased by 34.9% under manufacturing. Trailers, semi-trailers, and automobiles all saw gains of 33.5%. In comparison to December 2024, sixteen of the twenty-three manufacturing industry groupings reported increased output.

December saw a 6.8% increase in mining and a 6.3% increase in electricity generation, highlighting a general improvement in economic activity. These industries, along with manufacturing, increased the entire IIP index from 158.0 points in December 2024 to 170.3 points.

For the month of December 2025, the Mining, Manufacturing, and Electricity Industrial Production Indices are 153.0, 169.9, and 204.9, respectively.

The government statistics indicated that growth was visible among various product categories. There were strong increases in infrastructure and construction materials, consumer durables, and consumer non-durables, reflecting an uptick in demand.

In addition, capital goods and intermediate goods also experienced notable gains, indicating a strengthening of investment and production linkages within the economy. The upcoming release of the Index for January 2026 is set for Monday, March 2, 2026. The Quick Estimates for December 2025 and the final revision for November 2025 were compiled with weighted response rates of 89.81 percent and 92.91 percent, respectively.
