WPI inflation falls to 3.80 per cent in December

The annual rate of inflation, based on monthly WPI, stood at 3.80% for the month of December, 2018 as compared to 4.64% for the previous month and 3.58% during the corresponding month of the previous year.

ICRA expects the WPI inflation to range between 3.7-4.4 per cent in the remainder of second half for current fiscal.

The index for ‘Food Articles’ group declined by 1.4 percent to 144.0 from 146.1 for the previous month due to lower price of fruits & vegetables (8%), peas/chawali (7%), condiments & spices (2%) and paddy (1%).

The index for ‘Non-Food Articles’ group declined by 0.1 percent to 124.5 from 124.6 for the previous month due to lower price of guar seed (6%), raw cotton and castor seed (3% each), groundnut seed (2%) and raw rubber, rape & mustard seed and raw silk (1% each).
